Description
In the heart of July, with the sun casting a warm, golden glow over the picturesque landscapes near Meeker, Colorado, my grand-daughter and I embarked on a quest to capture the perfect snapshot of Highland Coos. Armed with cameras and enthusiasm, we set off into the rolling hills, ready to immortalize these iconic creatures on film.
As we approached a meadow with knee-high grass, we spotted a small herd of Highland Coos and their calves grazing leisurely. Their shaggy coats and impressive horns made them look like walking haystacks with attitude. Excitement bubbled within us, and we readied our cameras, hoping to capture their charm. Little did we know, these coos had other plans.
With the stealth of seasoned wildlife photographers, we attempted to approach the coos, inching our way closer, crouched behind bushes and rocks. Just as we thought we were about to snap the perfect shot, they turned their backs to us! It was as if they had a sixth sense for detecting cameras, and they executed a synchronized 180-degree turn, revealing only their furry rears.
Undeterred, we chuckled and decided to wait patiently for the coos to get over their apparent case of camera shyness. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a mesmerizing orange hue across the landscape, we thought our luck was about to change. The coos seemed to notice the beautiful sunset and turned to face it. Perfect! But alas, just as we were about to click the shutter, they started munching on grass, paying no heed to the stunning spectacle behind them.
We exchanged amused glances and persisted, determined to get that quintessential shot. We crawled closer, mud staining our jeans, twigs catching in our hair, and cameras poised for action. This time, it seemed like we were in luck. The coos were gazing straight ahead, their expressions looking as majestic as ever.
With the last rays of daylight fading, we sat down on a grassy knoll, my grand-daughter and I, admiring the stubbornly uncooperative yet utterly endearing Highland Coos. Our cameras hung from our necks, abandoned for the moment, as we soaked in the tranquility of the evening.
As we snapped a final picture of the coos , we realized that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones that don't go according to plan. Our mission to capture the "perfect" Highland Coo photo might have been a comedy of errors, but the joy we derived from the experience was worth every missed shot. And so, with a pocketful of quirky coo photos and hearts full of laughter, my grand-daughter and I headed back home, ready to regale our friends with the tale of our misadventures in pursuit of the elusive Highland Coo glamour shot.
